My car only has a single-phase charging port. Can I buy a three-phase charger?
Yes. However, if your vehicle only supports single-phase charging, the charging power will be limited:
• Using an 11kW charger → Max output becomes 3.5kW
• Using a 22kW charger → Max output becomes 7kW Actual power depends on the vehicle capability.
• Using an 11kW charger → Max output becomes 3.5kW
• Using a 22kW charger → Max output becomes 7kW Actual power depends on the vehicle capability.
What are single-phase, two-phase, and three-phase electricity? How do I determine what my vehicle supports?
1. Identification method (via port pins)
• Single-phase: L2 & L3 empty
• Two-phase: L2 present, L3 empty
• Three-phase: L2 & L3 both present
2. Power compatibility
Three-phase chargers are backward compatible, but actual power depends on the vehicle.
3. Example
If the vehicle only supports single-phase 32A (7kW), even with a 22kW charger, charging remains 7kW.
How to choose a suitable electric vehicle charger?
Selection depends on vehicle charging capability, plug type, and home electrical system compatibility.
Charging Performance & Speed
How long does a full charge take?
Charging time depends on your battery capacity and the charger's power output.
I want to buy a 3.5kW charger. What is its charging speed?
The charging rate is adjustable, supporting preset currents: 8A (1.8kW), 10A (2.2kW), 13A (2.9kW), 16A (3.5kW). The Cat-EV-F9 allows precise 1A-step adjustment from 8A to 16A via the app.
If I purchase a charger with a higher power rating, will my car charge faster?
Actual charging power is limited by whichever supports lower power—the car or the charger. Example: If your car only supports 7kW single-phase, even a 22kW charger will still charge at 7kW.
How fast can this charger charge my electric vehicle?
1. The charger supplies the maximum available current, and the vehicle automatically limits the actual charging current. 2. When set to 32A: - If the vehicle supports 32A → Full 7kW charging - If only supports 20A → Automatically limited to 20A
Why did I purchase a 32A charger, but it's only charging at 28A?
The charger can supply 32A, but the EV draws only the current it needs. Actual current is determined by the vehicle.
Why is my 12kW charger only delivering 10kW of power?
Actual charging power depends on grid voltage. Formula: Power (kW) = Voltage (V) × Current (A) ÷ 1000**
What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 chargers?
Level 2: 3–8 hours charging, ~32 miles of range per hour - Level 1: 11–20 hours charging, ~4 miles of range per hour
