Hungary Secures Second Spot in Europe for Growth in E-vehicle Sales
Experienced a surge of over one and a half times in registrations of new pure electric cars from January to August this year, compared to the equivalent timeline the previous year, according to the Ministry of Energy's Thursday update on Facebook. Only Malta achieved a higher growth rate, surpassing Hungary's 53.5 percent rise. Contrarily, the EU average revealed more than an 8 percent dip.
On a similar note, Hungary played runner up in July's continental rankings, again trailing the island nation, even though it churned out considerably smaller figures. In the summer, the 60,000th electric-only vehicle was logged in Hungary.
Data from the Europe's Automobile Manufacturers’ Association ( ACEA ) for August showed a nearly 44 percent contraction in green car registrations across the EU. Only seven out of the total member states, including Hungary, recorded growth.
Through the repeated assertion of the ministry, it is clear that the future is green. Along with climate preservation, the government of Hungary stresses the importance of ushering in a more eco-friendly electromobility to bolster European competitiveness.
This year's substantial progress was largely encouraged by a HUF 30 billion (EUR 76 million) scheme aimed at incentivizing domestic firms to buy electric vehicles. To date, over 3,700 requests have been lodged for state financial backing to purchase 3,400 cars and close to 1,100 vans. Approximately 2,500 firms have already received HUF 11.7 billion (EUR 29.6 million), most of them have executed a grant agreement, and over a tenth have been disbursed HUF 1.1 billion (EUR 2.7 million), as stated by the department.
In the upcoming period, the Ministry of Energy plans to address the shortfall in the rural charging infrastructure in a bid to further facilitate the green transition.
Owing to the HUF 28 billion (EUR 71 million) procurement, cutting-edge charging points will be established at roughly 100 fresh sites beyond the capital city.
