Canada Reaches Its Limit with Tesla .

Mar 29, 2025 feyree

Canada has decided to exclude Tesla from certain incentive programs and even removed the brand from a major auto show, signaling its frustration with Tesla's CEO Elon Musk and his interactions with U.S. President Donald Trump. This move by Canada, a nation known for its friendly demeanor, is a response to Musk's controversial stance on trade tariffs and talk of the United States annexing Canada.

David Eby, the Premier of British Columbia, noted that Tesla products are now excluded from the province's electric vehicle charger incentive program. This exclusion means residents will need to opt for other brands to access up to $250 (CAD $350) in rebates for new chargers, energy storage batteries, and inverters. However, purchases made or pre-approved by March 12 still qualify for the incentives.

Additionally, Toronto's mayor, Olivia Chow, has removed financial incentives for Tesla vehicles purchased as taxis or ride-share options, unless the trade disputes with the U.S. are resolved. This means drivers will have to consider alternatives to Tesla for such services, with reduced licensing and renewal fees available for other electric vehicles until 2029.

Moreover, safety concerns led the Vancouver International Auto Show to request Tesla to withdraw, following protests against Musk’s tactics and Trump's political actions regarding Canada. This decision comes amid declining Tesla sales and a growing number of owners distancing themselves from the brand due to its political associations.
